What's the Alcohol Content of McHenry County Beers?
Looking at the average ABV of beer types and breweries
To continue our deep dive into McHenry County beer, I’m looking at the ABV (alcohol by volume) of beers in the county. I’m breaking down into:
Most alcoholic beers
Average ABV by brewery
Average ABV by type of beer
Distribution by ABV
As with the other analysis, I only included beers that have more than 10 ratings and for the beer type, I only included the types that included more than one beer.
To start, here are the most alcoholic beers produced by McHenry County breweries.
These top 5 have ABVs over 13%. For comparison, the average for unfortified wine is 11.6%. After this, there was one beer at 13%, eight at 12%, and another 20 between 11% and 12%.
You’ll also notice that two breweries have the top 5 for alcoholic beers, which brings us to our next analysis.
It’s no surprise that Holzlager is near the top given it has the county’s three most alcoholic beers.
I also wanted to look at the average ABV for popular types of beer.
You can see that Stout followed by IPA were the most alcoholic types. Rounding out the bottom were Lager and Pale Ale.
And last but not least, I wanted to look at the distribution of beers by ABV. The overall average for beers in McHenry County was 6.59%.
You can see that almost a third of beers (28.52%) fall between 5% and 5.99%, and three quarters (75.70%) fall between 4% and 7.99%.
